Question:Does this filter remove nano Smart dust and aluminium?
Answer:Yes, it can filter aluminum if there are any particles suspended in the air and yes, it filters down to the nano-scale. Ordinary HEPA systems only claim to remove particles down to .3 microns. The Air Doctor Ultra HEPA is certified to filter 99.5% of all particles down to 0.003 microns, 100 times smaller.
Question:What does the Ion Generator do?
Answer:An ion generator produces negatively charged ozone molecules. This is a panacea that these slightly heavier oxygen species (not quite ‘free radicals, but reactive oxygen compound is likely the best term for ozone at sea level) will purify and sanitize the air. The Oxygen triad will decompose when in contact with enough positive particles (dust, bacteria, viruses, high humidity, etc.) and will give your room that ozone smell. Know that ozone is a California carcinogen, so yes, it can kill floating bacteria and destabilize floating viruses, but it can also contribute to the formation of lung tumors if you breath large amounts – or small amounts over a very long period. I prefer UV light irradiation for germicidal benefit, not for ozone production – and I prefer not to breathe ozone.
